In their first game back in 10 days, SCA traveled to Gabriel Richard and came away with a 44-30 win.
Lauren Arena scored a quick layup right from the tip off to give the Stars an early 2-0 lead. Gabriel Richard answered back with a 8-1 run. With the score 8-3, the Stars finished the quarter with 7 consecutive points by Lauren Arena, Maryann Alexander and Lauren Luomala. SCA had a 10-8 lead after the first quarter.
The middle of the second quarter is when SCA started to stretch the lead. After the score was tied at 14 each, the Stars outscored Richard 10-2 to take a 24-16 lead into halftime. Bryce Burke, Maryann Alexander, Olivia Skown, Lizzy Turek, and Claire McClorey each contributed points in the final minutes of the second quarter.
The third quarter was a little flat by both teams. Each team scored only 4 points and the Stars led 28-20.
The pace of the game picked back up in the fourth quarter. SCA increased their lead to 10 points, 34-24 and took off from that point. A clutch 3 point shot by Haley Gustad, followed by a wide open layup for Lizzy Turek and the Stars took a commanding 39-24 lead. Although Richard put the pressure on late in the game, the Stars stayed composed and finished the game strong.
Lizzy Turek led the team with 11 points. Lauren Arena scored 8 points and Haley Gustad and Maryann Alexander each contributed 7 points.
The Stars improve to 9-2 on the season and will face off against Greenhills on Friday.
