The Stars fall to 6-2 on the season with a loss to Shrine by the score of 45-35.

SCA had a great start to the game. After an early 4-4 tie game, the Stars went on a 7-0 run with baskets made by Haley Gustad, Lizzy Turek and Lauren Arena. With the score 11-4, Shrine answered back with 4 consecutive points to narrow the margin to 11-8. Haley Gustad made a 3 point basket to end the quarter with a 14-8 advantage.

Shrine took control of the game in the second quarter. Shrine outscored SCA, 9-2, to take their first lead of the game, 17-16. Haley Gustad came through once again for the Stars and converted on a 3 point basket to regain the lead 19-16. The Stars remained scoreless for the remainder of the second quarter and trailed 22-19 at halftime.

Offensively, Shrine picked up in the third quarter right where they left off. They started the third quarter on a 5-1 run to take a 27-20 lead. SCA battled back and Lizzy Turek scored the next 8 points for the Stars to narrow the deficit to 2 points, 30-28. The last 2 minutes of the third quarter was back and forth and Shrine led 34-30 to end the third quarter.

Maryann Alexander scored the first basket of the fourth quarter to once again get the Stars within 2 points, 34-32. However, Shrine outscored the Stars, 11-3 down the stretch.

Lizzy Turek led the team with 11points. Haley Gustad scored 10.

The Stars will travel to Ann Arbor Greenhills on Wednesday, Jan. 9.
