SCA improves to 11-2 on the season with a win over Gabriel Richard by the score of 45-37.
The Stars came out with energy on defense which led to an early 6-0 lead. Claire McClorey, Lizzy Turek and Darbi Klatt each scored for the Stars. However, Gabriel Richard fired right back, converting on two three point shots and it resulted in going on a 16-3 run to take a 16-9 lead after the first eight minutes of play.
SCA regrouped and settled back into the game during the second quarter. Maeve Burke scored a much needed basket and Darbi Klatt added another one to get the Stars back within 3 points, 16-13. Gabriel Richard made another 3 point basket, but that would be the only points they would get in the second quarter. SCA outscored Gabriel Richard 13-3 and led 22-19 at halftime.
Gabriel Richard scored the first basket of the third quarter but the Stars rattled off the next 10 consecutive points to take a 32-21 lead. Both teams exchanged baskets and SCA maintained a 10 point lead up until the 38-28 score. Gabriel Richard scored the final four points of the quarter to cut the deficit to 6 points, 38-32.
In the final quarter, Gabriel Richard continued to shoot the ball well and got within 3 points, 38-35 but that would be the closest they would get. Hailey Baumann hit a big 3 point shot to make it a 6 point game, 41-35. The Stars stayed composed and took some valuable time off the clock and pulled away with the win.
Lizzy Turek led the team with 9 points. Darbi Klatt scored 7 points and Carmen Shammami and Lauren Arena each added 6 points.
The Stars travel to Shrine on Friday night to take on the Knights at 7:00pm.
