SCA falls to 2-1 on the season, after suffering a tough loss to Our Lady of Lakes by the score of 55-53 in overtime.
Lakes opened up the game with a layup to take the early 2-0 lead. Olivia Skown put the Stars on the scoreboard, just before Lakes went on an 8-0 run. SCA found themselves down 10-2, midway through the first quarter. Lakes continued to shoot the ball well and had a 16-7 advantage at the end of the first.
The second quarter appeared as if it was going to follow suit. Offensively, Lakes went on a 5-2 run to take what would be their largest lead of the game at 21-9. However, the Stars were not going to quit. SCA slowly chipped away and outscored Lakes 13-7 to end the half. This included a 3 point shot at the buzzer by Maryann Alexander. Halftime score was SCA 22 Lakes 28.
The third quarter had several momentum changes. Lakes scored the first bucket to take an 8 point lead. Lizzy Turek answered back with a 3 point shot to cut the deficit back to 5. Lakes then extended their lead back to 10 points. The score was 35-25. The Stars finished out the third on a 11-5 run to narrow the score to 36-40 heading into the fourth quarter.
Once again, Lakes pushed the ball offensively. With 4 minutes to go in the game, Lakes had a 45-38 advantage. The Stars closed regulation with a 9-2 run and their score was locked up at 47 each.
Lakes scored the first basket in overtime and SCA found themselves chasing from behind. Lakes outscored SCA 8-6 to win by the final score of 55-53.
Maryann Alexander led the Stars with 23 points. Lizzy Turek scored 19.
