The Stars came up short in the championship game of the Catholic League playoffs to Our Lady of Lakes by the score of 44-27.
The opening quarter was a defensive battle with only 11 total points scored between both teams. The lead changed hands 4 times and the score was tied twice during the first eight minutes. Lakes led 6-5.
Although the scoring started to pick up in the second quarter, the game continued to be a back and forth battle. Maeve Burke scored the first basket of the quarter and the Stars regained the lead 7-6. SCA went on a 5-2 run after Rachel Luomala made a field goal and Hailey Baumann knocked down a triple. Stars led 12-9. Lakes tied the game back up at 12 with a made 3 pointer. Claire McClorey and Maeve Burke combined for 3 made free throws and the Stars led 15-12. However, Lakes finished the half with a 8-1 run and led 20-16 at halftime.
Lakes broke the game open to start the third quarter by scoring the first seven points. Lauren Arena made a free throw to finally get the Stars back on the scoreboard and back within 10 points, 27-17. After basket exchanges and the score 29-19, the Stars scored the next 4 points, to narrow the gap to 29-23. However, that we be the closest the Stars would get. Lakes finished the third quarter on a 5-0 run and led 34-23.
SCA added more pressure on defense to start the fourth quarter, however the deficit was too much for the Stars to overcome.
Hailey Baumann led the team with 7 points. Maeve Burke scored 5 and Lizzy Turek with 4 points.
