On Saturday the Stars won their first Catholic League Championship in school history, beating second place Riverview Gabriel Richard by 4 points to win the League title. The Stars scored 20 out of a possible 24 points, with 4 flights finishing in first, and the other 4 finishing in second place.
Finishing first in singles play for the Stars were freshman Maddie Sullivan at #1 singles, who lost 1 game the entire tournament, and senior Dominique Sovis who won at #4 for singles for the second straight year. In doubles play, Mary Lyman and Samantha Luke won a close final at #3 doubles, and at #4 doubles sophomores Bridget Wolter and Jada Nafso won their final with a dominating 8-0 victory.
Adding second place finishes for the Stars in singles were #2 freshman Katie O’Connell, and #3 freshman Sloane Dietz. In doubles the Stars got second place finishes at #1 from sophomores Annie Herrmann and Anne Marie Clinger, and at #2 doubles from Lauren Mccarthy and Lily Wagel – who lost in a tie-breaker.
Next up for the Stars is the Regional Tournament on Thursday May 17 at Greenhills.
