The Stars opened up their season by falling to Redford Union by the score of 38-30. Offensively, the game had a slow start, with the first point of the game coming off a free throw by Maryann Alexender, at the halfway point of the first quarter. However, after that point was scored, the stars went on 8-4 run to take a 9-4 lead. Redford Union battled back and scored the next 11 straight points to take a 15-9 lead. SCA finished the half with a basket by Sofia Iaquinto and 2 free throws by Maryann Alexander. Redford Union led 17-13 at halftime.
SCA came out strong in the second half, scoring the first 6 points to take the lead 19-17. Redford Union scored the next 5 consecutive points to retake the lead, 22-19. The remainder of the third quarter was a see-saw battle, but a big 3 point basket by Lizzy Turek, put the Stars up 25-24 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter’s point differential stayed within 3 points, until Redford Union pulled away with about 3 minutes remaining.
Maryann Alexander led the team with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Gabby Green added 9 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
The next game is Saturday, Dec. 2 at Fr. Gabriel Richard. JV starts at 12:00pm followed by Varsity at 1:30pm.
