The Stars earned their third consecutive victory by defeating Gabriel Richard by the score of 39-21.
SCA came out on fire on offense, scoring 21 points in the first quarter, Maryann Alexander put the first 2 points on the board by connecting on 2 free throws. Lizzy Turek followed that up with a 3 point shot to give the Stars an early 5-0 lead. Gabby Green hit 2, 3 point shots which started to spread the gap in the score. Stars led 21-8 at the end of the first quarter.
Although the scoring in the second quarter went down, SCA kept control of the game. Lizzy Turek and Gabby Green scored the first 5 points of the second quarter to expand the lead to 25-8. Gabriel Richard’s only 2 points in the second quarter came from the free throw line. SCA led 31-10 at halftime.
The game started to slow down in the second half. Both teams were being patient on offense. The first basket of the third quarter was made by Haley Gustad at the 6:30 mark. Gabriel Richard scored 2 more baskets in the third, but SCA came right back and answered them. Stars led 37-14 at the end of the third quarter.
Offensively, the Stars only scored 2 points in the fourth quarter. A couple forced turnovers by Gabriel Richard led them to score some open court layups.
Overall, it was a great team win! Everyone contributed and a nice way to come back after Christmas break.
Gabby Green led the team with 11 points. and 8 rebounds. Maryann Alexander added 10 points and 7 rebounds.
