The Stars traveled to Mercy High School to play in the first round of the Catholic League Tournament and defeated Bishop Foley, 36-33.

SCA played one of their best first half’s to date. After both teams exchanged baskets and the score tied at 6, the Stars made an offensive run. Scoring the next 11 straight points, SCA took a 17-6 lead. During that time span, Gabby Green hit 2, three point shots, Grace Gulowski also made a 3, and Haley Gustad completed 2 free throws. Foley was able to finish the first quarter with a made free throw, leaving the score 17-7.

Foley came out and made a 3 point shot to start the second quarter to narrow the margin to 17-10. Defensively, the Stars did not allow another point in the second quarter. Offensively, SCA rallied for another 7 points and took a 24-10 lead into halftime.

Once again, Foley started the third quarter by making a 3 point shot. They continued to be aggressive on the offensive end, and scored the next 4 points. The Stars still lead, 24-17 when Maryann Alexander made a much needed basket. Grace Gulowski followed that up with a 3 point shot and the Stars retook an double digit lead, 29-17. Foley was not giving up though and finished the third quarter on a 5-0 run. SCA was leading 29-22 heading into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter was a battle. Foley went on a 7-2 run to put themselves within 2 points, however that is as close as they would get. With the score, 31-29 the Stars made free throws down the stretch to secure the win. Haley Gustad and Lizzy Turek each made 2 free throws each and Gabby Green made 1.

The Stars had a nice balcance if scoring. Lizzy Turek led the team with 9 points. Grace Gulowski and Maryann Alexander each scored 8 points. Gabby Green scored 7 and Haley Gustad contributed 4 points.

The Stars advance to the semi-final of the Catholic League Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 13. They will play Our Lady of Lakes at 5:30pm at Regina High School.
