The St. Catherine Stars are Catholic League Champions!!!!

The Stars faced off against Our Lady of Lakes and came away with a 40-36 victory!

Lakes took an early 7-2 lead, however the Stars came battling back. With 1:18 to play in the first quarter, SCA scored the next 7 points to take a 9-7 lead. Sarah Johnston and Hailey Baumann each scored a basket, while Angelina Arena stepped in and made a three point shot!

Lakes tied the game at 9 to start the second quarter, but the Stars went on a 8-0 run. Back to back three point shots by Angelina Arena and Rachel Luomala and a field goal by Darbi Klatt contributed to the 17-9 advantage for the Stars. The Stars outscored Lakes 6-4 in the final minutes of the second quarter and led 23-13 at halftime.

Offensively, the Stars struggled in the third quarter. They got some great looks but nothing seemed to fall. Hailey Baumann scored the only basket and Darbi Klatt added one free throw for a total of 3 points in this quarter. Lakes had their best quarter, offensively and scored 12. Stars led 26-25 heading into the final quarter.

Lakes made a three point shot to take a 28-26 lead, however Lauren Godin matched it to retake the lead 29-28. Lauren Arena scored the next 4 points, 2 free throws and a basket, and the Stars led 33-28. With 1:54 remaining, the Stars led 37-34. Lauren Arena made 3 free throws down the stretch to round out the scoring for SCA. Defensively, the Stars held Lakes to 2 additional points.

SCA wins their first Catholic League Championship, 40-36!!!!

Darbi Klatt and Rachel Luomala each scored 9 points. Lauren Arena scored 7 and Angelina Arena added 6 points.

The Stars will be hosting the MHSAA District tournament and will play on Wednesday, March 24 at 6:00 pm against Livonia Clarencevelle.
